Get to know our Incoming Mature and Part Time Students’ Commissioner

Hello there,

My name is Matthew Knox and I will be the Mature & Part-Time Students’ Commissioner for the 2017/2018 school year. Like many of my esteemed colleagues on the LSU, I am currently completing a Bachelor of Social Work and will be graduating in the spring of 2018.

Having previously completed a Bachelor of Political Science in 2012 at York University, I feel well equipped to converse with both mature and new students about the highs, lows, hardships, and general chaos that makes up a university experience. My first year at York began with the now-infamous 85 day long strike of 2008-09, and my experience at Laurentian has consisted of the tragic closing of the Barrie Campus, along with my fellow students and I going through the stressful accreditation process of Laurentian’s BSW program. Again, the general chaos that makes up a university experience… all without mentioning tuition, rent, work and kids!

I hope to contribute to the highs and help to address the challenges experienced by mature and part-time students in the upcoming school year. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my life story thus far. I hope to meet you in the halls and collaborate with you to make your time at Laurentian as rewarding and fun as possible.

Hello everyone! My name is Sara and I am entering my fourth year of study in the Bachelor of Social Work program. I am excited to introduce myself as LSU’s 2017/2018 Indigenous Students’ Commissioner. My mother’s side of the family is Mohawk, and my long term goal in social work is to work in hospice/palliative care. To those returning to LU Barrie, please don’t hesitate to say hello! I look forward to being a part of the LSU team!

Get to know our Incoming Vice-President of Administration & Finance

Hi to all! I am very excited to be returning as a member of the LSU once again- this will be my third year! I will be acting as VP Administration and Finance. I am a social work student, and will be entering my final year of study in the fall of 2017. My long term goal is to get into creative therapeutic art interventions.

Some fun facts about me…I am passionate about all art forms- especially painting and dance! I also love hiking and spending time exploring Georgian Bay and its surrounding areas.

To those of you returning to LU Barrie, I look forward to seeing you! Please say hi if you see me in the halls. To those of you embarking on a new adventure, either at LU Sudbury or another institution, best of luck! :)
