The Laurentian Students’ Union (LSU) executive would like to take this opportunity to welcome new students to Laurentian University, as well as to welcome back those continuing their studies. 2013-2014 is shaping up to be another exciting year with many social and educational events on the calendar.
The LSU is the official body representing all full and part-time Laurentian students studying at the Georgian College Barrie Campus. As a student run organization existing independently from both Laurentian University and the Georgian College administrations, it is the LSU’s role to act as the voice of the Laurentian student body, representing the interests of its members to all levels of government and university and college administration. As a member local of the Canadian Federation of Students, the LSU is committed to fighting for necessary academic, administrative, and legislative changes to improve the quality of education provided to its members.
The LSU is firmly devoted to enhancing your university experience by fostering an active student culture on the Barrie campus. Throughout the year the Union coordinates and hosts regular events and activities which are open to all students. Popular examples include the annual trip to Ottawa for Model Parliament, TurkeyBowl, the Laurentian free-skate and hockey game, social justice seminars and campaigns, coffee houses, pub nights, and many more.
The LSU advocates for a variety of political causes, such as promoting an inclusive campus culture and organizing students in the struggle against rising tuition fees. As students our political strength is in our numbers. We are always looking for new voices to help the LSU continue the struggle for social justice!
Involvement in student politics and your students’ union is a great way to make the most of your university experience. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, drop by the students’ union office in room E112A.
