Laurentian History Society
The History Association was founded in 2010 by like-minded history students eager to engage the student body in a variety of social events including (spokesperson seminars/guest speakers), trips to the Simcoe Museum, Medieval Times, and hosting a History of Beer night, which will be held for the 4th consecutive year and now very much part of the History Association tradition.
During the summer of 2013 an official Coat of Arms was commissioned by President Alex Laxton and now hangs in the Student’s Union office on campus. The artist, Erin Siegel, is a renowned painter and graphic design artist in Toronto combined traditional Native American motifs with Irish/Celtic symbols to create an eye-catching image.
It is inscribed with, “Engage the Past”, which was inspired by history professor Dr. Brad Rudachyk portraying a historians obligation to reaching back in time and bringing the past into the present. The History Association is one of the founding associations at the university and remains one of the most passionate and engaging groups. The current membership is dedicated to keeping true to this tradition.
